A Futalognkosaurus awaits!
If you thought you knew everything there was to know about dinosaurs, think again.
The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada (ROM) is featuring Ultimate Dinosaurs: Giants from Gondwana, which opened mid January 2012.
For the first time ever, curious dinosaur fans will get a glimpse into this collection of bizarre, unusual looking dinosaurs that are virtually unknown in North America because their evolution was isolated to South America, Africa, and Madagascar.
The dynamic exhibit explores the effect of the continental drift that separated the supercontinent Pangea (some 250 to 65 million years ago). This imposed geographic relocation, and subsequent isolation promoted their evolution into the incredible array of bizarre forms that we marvel at today.
Surrounded by life-like environmental murals, the exhibition features samples and intact fossils, skeletons, and 17 full-scale skeletal casts, many of which have never been seen in Canada before. You can get up-close and personal with the world’s first display of the Futalognkosaurus, a giant, long-necked sauropod stretching 110 feet long and weighing as much as 10 elephants.
The exhibit is l January 6, 2013, before embarking on its first international tour.
